The glimmer in Mrs. Custer’s eye each time she looked at Stephanie and whispered, “That’s my baby.” Megan bounding up the stairs in the morning, eager to see her dear friend after months away. The endless hugs from Kathryn to Percy after his near accident. Paula, ever prepared, pulling out extra bridesmaid dresses when mine didn’t fit. Nathan, singing endless Les Mis songs throughout the day. Jonathan’s giddy, little-boy grin in anticipation of seeing his bride. Mr. Custer, somehow keeping it together as he walked his daughter down the aisle. Pastor Jon Brown tearing up during the ceremony. Steph and Jon, sitting on bench after bench during our portrait session, just trying to take in the day. Nicolas, bursting into a smile as everyone sang “happy birthday.” Mrs. Verwys, gliding on the dance floor with her son. Friends and family, gathered around the setting sun, speechless in the light of another ending day. The day ended, but the giddy feelings of love overflowed into the next. I care so much for Jonathan and Stephanie. I’m so glad I got to be there on that porch, glowing right along with their family and friends. It was a heck of a good day. I can only hope I captured a smidgen of it.
